Edward R. Newsom
December 20, 1949 – January 30, 2003

Registered - "Senior" Blade Master - No. JD-001
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eddy Newsom (Sensei) was an inspiration to all with his enthusiasm for close combative defensive tactics. Eddy also contributed greatly to the Mushin Kan Curriculum on Edged Weapons by his actual experiences in hand-to-hand combat, which he survived while serving two tours in Vietnam.  During his service in Vietnam, Eddy had numerous hand-to-hand encounters with both NVA soldiers and Viet Cong. In Vietnam, he had been wounded a number of times, and on one occasion, while engaging an enemy NVA soldier in hand-to-hand, was bayoneted in his upper left side by another advancing NVA solider. Eddy was able to disarm the second NVA soldier of the weapon, remove the bayonet from his own body, and successfully kill both enemy soldiers with the same bayonet that was intended to kill him. Edward R. Newsom was a fearless and highly skilled samurai warrior, a good and faithful friend, and a Christian brother; he will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to be his friend. His legacy and inspiration to future generations of warriors will continue to live on in the Mushin Kan tradition. Eddy holds the distinction of being the - First "Senior - Blade Master" of the Mushin Kan Edged Weapons Program.
